ABL signs up to Disability Committed Scheme

One of the core values within ABL is to ensure every individual has the opportunity to work safely with a workspace and desk set up that ensures their ongoing health and wellbeing.

The Disability Confident scheme is designed to help companies recruit and retain disabled people and people with health conditions, who despite their physical or mental impairment, have valuable skills and talents they can offer to an employer.

Commenting on signing up to be a disability committed employer, Managing Director, Paul McKenzie said, “We hope that by joining the scheme and supporting the recruitment of employees who have a disability, we will add valuable skills to our business and potentially discover individuals that our business just can’t do without.”

The scheme involves progressing through three levels of qualification. ABL has currently achieved level one status is will be working towards the level two and three stages over the next two years.

To be recognised as Disability Confident Committed ABL has agreed to follow the Disability Confident commitments and carry out at least one activity that will make a difference for disabled people.

The commitments are:

  • inclusive and accessible recruitment
  • communicating vacancies
  • offering an interview to disabled people
  • providing reasonable adjustments
  • supporting existing employees

The activities we can complete include:

  • work experience
  • work trials
  • paid employment
  • apprenticeships
  • job shadowing
  • traineeships
  • internships
  • student placements
  • sector-based work academy placements

Managing Director, Paul McKenzie added, “Joining the scheme is a great way to show that we are serious about equal opportunities for disabled people. By being Disability Confident, ABL may also be seen as leading the way in our industry sector and a company that is helping to positively change attitudes, behaviours and cultures.”
